It's career fair month. With everything that we have covered, we are more than ready to take on the career fair. As I move through the fairs, I will also be submitting applications outside of the ones related to the career fair. Graduation is coming quickly, so the number of applications that you are submitting should be increasing greatly.
As far as the fairs go themselves, it is go time. Now is the time to sign-up for the career fairs and start building out your schedule. All of the employers will have sessions that you can sign up for at specific times. There is absolutely no problem with booking you schedule full; back-to-back appointments from start to finish.
All that matters is that you can handle what you commit to. There is absolutely zero benefit that comes from speaking with an employer when you are aren't prepared for the meeting. These sessions are only going to be beneficial if you are able to learn about the company and be prepared to speak intelligently with the representative. Therefore, it is so important that you prepare. I decided to keep this post short so we can all focus on our preparation.
Make sure you are looking for positions that are of interest to you prior to meeting with a company. You will be able to talk about these positions to the representative or ask about positions that you might not have seen. One of the secrets that I learned this fall was using LinkedIn to my advantage. Sending the follow-up Thank You message is great practice, but there are a lot of people that do that. However, messaging the recruiter prior to your meeting can really help you. I was able to find almost everyone I met with on LinkedIn and reach out to them before I met with them. This trick made me stand out in their lineup of meetings and most of the recruiters thanked me for reaching out prior to the meeting. Being able to start the brief 10 minute interaction out on a good note will only increase your chances for being successful at the career fair. And with that tip, I will sign off for today's post and starting booking my career fair slots. I hope that all of you can do the same! Stay Tuned and Keep Grinding Spartans!
